CAP Frequently Asked Questions
What is the College Achievement Program (CAP)?
This is a student success program designed to meet the academic
needs of freshmen students entering the University of Central Florida
with test scores below the state required minimum; that are required
to take college preparatory courses.
Why was I chosen to participate in this program?
Each freshman student upon entering the University of Central Florida
is assigned an academic advisor based on certain criteria. If your
SAT (math 440 verbal 440) and/or ACT (English 17, Reading 18, math
19) score is below the state required minimum you are required to
participate in CAP throughout your first academic year. You will
be notified two weeks before orientation of which area your test
scores are below in.
If I am required to take a college preparatory
course(s), when do I take the course(s)?
At orientation you will have the opportunity to take the College
Placement Test (CPT); if your CPT scores indicate that you need
to take a college preparatory course you must take the course your
first semester at UCF. Your UCF course registration could be placed
on hold if you fail to register for college preparatory course(s).
Are the college preparatory courses offered
at UCF?
The college preparatory courses are offered at the UCF main campus,
however they are taught by Valencia Community College (VCC) instructors.
Therefore, tuition and fees must be paid to VCC for college preparatory
coursework.
Who is my advisor?
If you are a CAP student your academic advisor will be Ken Staack. Contact him at kstaack@mail.ucf.edu or at (407) 823-5130.
