College Preparatory Courses Offered
CAP Prep Course schedule with locations!
Students must complete their required preparatory course(s) with
a minimum grade of "C" or higher in each course.
ENC 0012 College Preparatory English II
College Preparatory English II prepares students to plan and
write grammatically correct paragraphs and short essays. A grade
of "C" or higher is needed for entry into ENC 1101.
MAT 0012 Pre-Algebra
Pre-Algebra is an entry-level course in mathematics emphasizing
the fundamental mathematics operations with application to beginning
algebra. This is the first course in a sequence designed to prepare
students for first year college-level mathematics. Significant
time will be devoted to connections between mathematics and other
academic disciplines. Credits earned in this course do not fulfill
any college-level mathematics requirements nor do they apply toward
any college-level credit requirements. A grade of "C"
or higher is needed for entry into MAT 0024.
MAT 0024 Beginning Algebra
Beginning Algebra is designed to supplement the algebraic background
of students before they take certain courses at the college level.
Topics include sets, fundamental operations with polynomials,
linear equations and inequalities with applications, factoring
and its use in algebra, introduction to graphing of linear equations,
introduction to radicals, and use of calculators. This course
does not apply toward the mathematics requirements in general
education. A grade of "C" or higher is needed for entry
into MAT 1033.
MAT 1033 Intermediate Algebra
Intermediate Algebra presents algebraic skills, which are prerequisite
for MAC 1105. Topics include: linear equations and inequalities
in two variables and their graphs, systems of linear equations
and inequalities, introduction to functions, factoring, algebraic
fractions, rational equations, radicals and rational exponents,
complex numbers, quadratic equations, scientific notation, applications
of the above topics and the communication of mathematics. Applications
emphasizing connections with disciplines and the real world will
be included. This course does not satisfy the Gordon Rule in mathematics,
but the course does offer college elective credit. A minimum grade
of "C" is required.
REA 1106 Reading Skills
Reading Skills reinforces comprehension skills and vocabulary
development and emphasizes developing strategies for learning
and remembering new words. This course does not satisfy the Gordon
Rule in mathematics but the course does offer college elective
credit. A minimum grade of "C" is required.
