SARC Services
SARC provides undergraduate students with free individualized and small-group tutoring in accounting, astronomy, biology, chemistry, physics, and statistics. The staff of peer tutors provides approximately 125 hours of tutoring a week. Peer tutors are certified through three levels of the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) Tutoring Certification program. Students who make tutoring a part of their regular academic routine, notice an increase in academic performance.
In the Fall 1996 semester, SARC began its Supplemental Instruction (SI) Program. SI is a series of weekly study sessions for students taking historically difficult courses such as biology, chemistry, geology, physics, physical science, and college algebra. SI leaders, undergraduate students at UCF, are partnered with professors within subject areas to assist students enrolled in particular sections with course content. SI leaders participate in intensive semester long training and evaluation. Students participating in SI can develop a better understanding of course content and more effective ways to study, thus increasing their chances to earn better grades.
Every semester, SARC in collaboration with the University Testing Center, offers a series of CLAST Math and General Knowledge Math Workshops. In the SARC lab are computer tutorials and practice exams for all sections of the CLAST and General Knowledge exams as well as computer tutorials for the GRE, GMAT, and MCAT entrance exams.

SARC's academic advisors provide guidance and support to a targeted group of UCF freshmen, students in the College Achievement Program (CAP) and the Pegasus Success Program. Students who are a part of these specialized advising programs benefit from intensive programming and academic support allowing for a successful first year of college. This programming includes, mandatory academic advising requirements, participation in academic success workshops, goal setting and course monitoring, and access to peer mentors for additional support. The combination of personal contact and appropriate academic referrals provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary for academic success in college.
For the past five years, SARC has offered a series of pre-college seminars entitled, Mastering College Level Coursework. These seminars assist incoming first time in college students with information and practical techniques to assist them with their first two weeks in college. Topics include expectations of professors, managing your time in college, what is a syllabus, and access to upperclassmen and professors to learn "the ropes" prior to even stepping foot in a classroom. Each semester SARC provides all UCF students an opportunity to continually enhance their learning and study skills through a series of Academic Success Workshops. Topics include, power studying, time management, textbook reading, note taking, and test taking. Additional information on these and many other study skills can be found on-line. SARC has over 80 different study skills handouts available on this website for students to access and use at their leisure. A learning skills specialist is available for individual appointments to assist students in refining their skills for college level learning.
